I volunteered in rescue for many years. I walked dogs at the HS, i gave free massages to dogs in a city pound. I did transports and mote. I rescued in my neighborhood. At one point in time I had 4 dogs and 3 cats. Some were already srs. When they came to me. They have all passed over now. I am bereft in a temporary stage eager for my new life that will immediately include a rescue. I consider my father to be an early rescue adopter example. In 1960 he took me to the city pound for my first dog.
So very true! I had one dog from each place. 2 total. Chubee and Radar. Shorty was a puppymill release that someone didnt want and threatened to take him to the city pound if the rescue didnt cross the state to get him. I knew the rescue so became the mediator. I went out of state to get Henry. He filled the spot of my coonhound who died from hemolytic anemia after a rabies vaccine. Short story of course.😆 all were my pleasure!
I have always had dogs, from a neighborhood “Heinz 57” to wonderfully and ethically bred purebred dogs. I’ve just brought home a dumped 6-month-old “Border Collie-ish” girl, and seeing her eyes light up as she learns to trust that the world is a safe and happy place is the best! Dogs ask so little and enrich our lives in so many ways. (My pup is on Instagram @BravePupKate, for pics!)
Oh, you're going to love your border collie-ish dog. Sometimes the border collie mixes are a little less intense. I had a mix and she was super smart and very discerning when it came to people and dogs.
That was exactly my strategy! :-) So far, so good. Also, I chuckled when everyone told me not to get a BC "because they're all insane," because (a) I just turned 62, have at least 20 years of professional experience with dog training, and have known and lived with many wonderful BCs, and (b) my previous dog was treated (daily Rx) for chronic hyperarousal (sweet fun dude that he was). Now, I'm like, "WOW! This new dog is SO CHILL!" LOL Perspective matters.
I rescued two dogs . My first dog was Megan and the second dog was Grace Kelly. Both dogs were suppose to be "fosters". That lasted a minute . I loved them so much . Adopting them was my very best decisions.I am now dog less . Not something I want to be, grief, their care and the costs are hard realities. Rescue1Save2 🐾🐶✌️

Thank you for all you do! It's not easy taking care of dogs in shelters without becoming a doggie hoarder.

It sounds to me like you are the perfect owner for your BC. My BC was probably the easiest dog I’ve ever owned.
Aww, thanks—that’s reassuring amidst the loud chorus of people who think I’m crazy.

Condolences on your losses. It is very hard. And I am with you- I’d likely be a foster failure.
