I’m Karen Elizabeth Baril, creator of Dog Wise. I’m a journalist, animal writer, book editor, and live storyteller. I write from my farm in the northwest hills of Connecticut and share life with my incredible husband, two horses, two radically cool dogs, and a few critters that trundle through in the night.
I am a regular contributor to both U.S. and Canadian magazines. Throughout my career, I’ve explored a lot of fun topics, like, why you should brag about your dog especially if he’s within hearing distance, why modern dogs love to watch television, and fun games you can play with your dog to turn him into a brainiac.
I’ve created Dog Wise for anyone who loves dogs and wants to know more about how they think and why they do the funny things they do. Short, bite-sized reads that are as easy to digest as a peanut butter dog cookie.
My plan for Dog Wise is to let it go to the dogs. I’d love to have my subscribers help me with that; ask questions, share a funny dog photo, or suggest a fun topic. Definitely tell me about you and your dog (s) as I think it would be fun to do some personality profiles.
Most editions of Dog Wise are free, but you can pay a very reasonable $5 a month to join the pack. Your subscriber fee means you’ll never miss an edition and will gain access to both free and paid content, including the book reviews and other subscriber perks like the occasional photo contest and the deep dives into the latest canine news stories.
I love hearing from subscribers so please do get in touch with me to share your photos, stories, and ideas for topics you’d like to read about.
…and tell your friends to join the pack!

Yay! So good to see you here. Staring at the dog pooping is actually one thing I don't do. I'm sure it would make him feel self-conscious or something. Do dogs do that to each other? Hmmm. Never thought about that. I'm pretty sure they go sniff afterwards, maybe even pee on the poop. :-)
Fabulous, Karen . . . . great idea, even greater subject. Good luck, have fun, tell Arlo he has a good job ahead of him. You, too, actually . . . .
