A few years back, I interviewed Lindsey A. Wolko, Founder/CEO of the Center for Pet Safety and a long time safety advocate for pet products. I was writing an article for Animal Wellness on car restraints. Lindsay founded CPS after a minor car accident hurtled her dog, Maggie, an English Cocker Spaniel, into the back of the driver’s seat. Maggie was restrained in a car harness meant for dogs, but it failed miserably.
Maggie recovered from her injuries, but the experience led Wolko to investigate other so-called pet safety products. From harnesses to crates, flotation devices, and even toys, she found many failed basic safety tests.
