Hospital K-9 Units
Part 2 of a three part series on dogs in health care facilities
These are just a few of the amazing dogs our hospital employs. We honored them before Christmas with their own meet and greet; at our Coffee With a K-9 event.
We have several hospitals in our organization and these dogs rotate through our Central Region. They each have unique skills they bring to the job, some are trained in bomb and gun sniffing, others detect drugs, some are trained in search and rescue, arson, and evidence recovery.
All are held to rigorous physical fitness and behavioral standards.
They live with their assigned security officer and when they retire, they live out their lives with their handlers and their families. Some are commissioned to serve as therapy dogs for the employees. Working in a hospital can be stressful and the dogs have supported us time and time again.
